It is time to wake up

Why should you care about policies that are currently being sent before several states regarding education? Because what is happening isn’t small and the repercussions of these decisions matter more than you know.

Policy season is exhausting for anyone that advocates for education, kids, and the general wellbeing of humans. It used to be fun and invigorating. It used to be about bringing families and educators to the table and elevating the voices of those impacted by proposed policy. Today there is a weird cloud that can only be described as immoral. In too many policy conversations today there is no connection on a human level, there is lacking common sense, there is no systems-level thinking about the consequences of proposed policy, and there is no concern for actually fixing what is broken. Today anger, instead of excitement and hope seem to be driving policies that are coming forward.

That should be a sign that we are on the wrong path.

In terms of education, what is happening around the country is not a coincidence; Rather it is a collective, coordinated effort to disrupt what is happening in our schools. I will be the first to agree that we could use a little disruption in education; our public education systems will not survive as they currently exist unless we learn to use time, space, and resources differently while empowering our kids.
